Please check our Facebook Page or call ahead for picking schedule.

Grab some friends, some comfy clothes and spend some time on the farm!

$3.99 per lb.

How to Pick Strawberries

Strawberry picking is most successful when the picker applies some

minor technique to their picking.

For the best flavor, choose berries that are fully ripe.  This means that

there are no white shoulders and they are completely red.

1. Hold the stem of the strawberry at about one half of an inch above the

berry between your thumbnail and index finger while cradling the fruit in your palm.

2. Sever the stem sever the stem with pressure from your thumbnail

while slightly twisting the stem.

3. Allow the strawberry (including the cap and stem) gently roll down into

your palm. If you are ambidextrous, use your other hand for strawberry

picking at the same time using the same procedure.

4. Repeat step three until both palms are full of strawberries.

5. Gently place your handfuls of picked strawberries into your chosen container. Don’t press the strawberries or heap them over five inches.

6. Repeat the entire process until you have picked all the ripe berries on the plant you're picking from then move to the next plant. Working down the row and picking the plant clean of red berries, big and small, will allow you to accomplish your strawberry picking goals faster!

General Picking Tips

Strawberries are on the ground so get down with them! The best picking happens when you are sitting, crouching or on your knees.

Move the leaves around. Find those berries that are super ripe that no one else has bothered to look for. The riper the berry, the sweeter the flavor.

If you find an overripe berry, pick it and throw it to the middle of the path or out into the adjoining field.  We can get rid of it easier and it won't deceive other pickers who are looking for the bestest tastiest berries!

Please pay for pretty much all the berries you pick. We understand you (and the kids) will sample a few and we're perfectly OK with that, but try to be reasonable. Everyone will thank you for this by allowing us to continue to offer our you-pick.

Pricing

We have a 1 lb. minimum on blackberry picking

1-9 lbs: $3.99 lb

10-19 lbs: $3.79 lb

20+ lbs: $3.59 lb

How to Pick Blackberries

1.  A ripe blackberry is deep black with a plump, full feel. It will pull free from the plant with only a slight tug.  If the berry is red or purple, it's not ripe yet.

2. Repeat these operations using both hands until each holds 3 or 4 berries.Unlike strawberries, blackberries are usually pretty tough, I dump mine into the bucket. Repeat the picking process with both hands.

3. Don't overfill your containers or try to pack the berries down.

General Picking Tips

Pick only the berries that are fully black. Reach in between the branches to grab for hidden berries ready for harvest. Bend down and look up into the plant and you'll find loads of berries that other people missed!

Avoid placing the picked berries in the sunlight any longer than necessary. It is better to put them in the shade of a tree than in the car trunk or on the car seat. Cool them as soon as possible after picking. Blackberries may be kept fresh in the refrigerator for up to a week, depending upon the initial quality of the berry. After a few days in storage, however, the fruit loses its bright color and fresh flavor and tends to shrivel.
